Apollonia Circa 2008...

I must admit I hate artistic comparisons, but sometimes they help to drive a point home. Now I know youngens reading our blog is like who or what in the hell is Apollonia. So let me give a quick pop culture lesson for those who don't have a clue. Apollonia was Prince's female counterpart in Purple Rain... and she also fronted Prince's girl band Apollonia 6. At that time mad dudes wanted to date Apollonia and just as many girls wanted to be like her. She was sexy, without being slutty and just plain dope. Lesson over...

So back to the here and now... Harriet's was in the building this past Friday at 'When Boy Meets Girl' V3.0 at Sputnik in Brooklyn, so we got to bear witness to RAYE 6, who killed it. She reminded me of Apollonia in the way that she commanded the audience, taunting the fellas with her sexuality but at the same time earning her respect. Raye's band was also on point (quick shout out to Malik and T-Bone formerly of GAME Rebellion). She had great stage presence, her outfit was ridiculous (loved the dress and shoes) and she gets an A+ for crowd participation... she even gave out roses to all the ladies in the audience.

Catch her this Saturday, August 16th at Backyard Couture @ Harriet's.

Nola Who?

Don't ever say we didn't try to put you on.

So here is the story. In the spring of 2007, Brooklyn’s iconic fly girl (the one who just had 'to have IT') got reincarnated in a Queens NY & East LA duo of feminine noise makers. The rest is music history in the making.
And if you didn't know, now you do…so no excuses!

The extra darling & fabulously-Fresh Chicas who are "Nola Darling" release a brand new mixtape-ish, non-concept-concept sound bomb. Straight to Stereo.

Nola Darling is proud to introduce the world’s first ever “Mini-Mixtape,” a new format in which to release music.

Too many original songs to be classified an EP… Not enough sampled tracks to be labeled a mixtape…. Too random to be considered a concept album…Not miscellaneous enough to be categorized a compilation… too soon to be the greatest hits…too late to be a single… too dope to be dubbed anything but a “Mini-Mixtape.”

P.S. Make sure to check these flygirls3000 for free why you still can...BACKYARD COUTURE Baby!

BLK JKS Live At Harriet's Alter Ego

Big ups to the good folks over at DigForFire.tv who just recently released these amazing videos
!

Waaaay back in April, our favorite South African Sound Benders stopped through for what was suppose to be a quite farewell to their stateside debut tour.

While we'd like to think of ourselves as refined ladies; we don't really know how to "do" quite goodbyes.

Ahtaah! Taah, Taah,
Taah!

BackYard Couture...The Recap.

Ok, so this past Saturday in Brooklyn was crazy! Every corner, every backyard and every park had an amazing event going on. But despite the looming threat of rain and the smorgasboard of things for folks to get into -BackYard Couture was BANANAS!

Sarah White, 77Klash, Sweetie & the FREAKING AMAZING HEAVy literally brought traffic to a stand still on Flatbush avenue.

Thanks to the great vendors, our talented DJ, the best Veggie Burgers on the planet (according to all of you guys who kept coming up to us asking where you could get em') & Kitty Hawk's Infamous Rum Punch a great time was had by all!

Special, big, lovely, humongous, shout out to all our sponsors, partners and of course YOU!!
